WiFi is a wireless local area network that transmits data back and forth. The data is transmitted from one piece of equipment to another via high frequency radio signals.

The “technology” is the transmission of signals and/or data. The transmission bounces off one piece of equipment to another. The transmission of the signal is usually a few hundred feet. Examples of using WiFi technology include sitting in a motel room on the bed and surfing the internet, or playing a video game online, on a wireless handheld device.

While you are using your laptop to search and receive information over the internet, it is sending and receiving signals from a small piece of equipment that is usually sitting on a desk in your motel room. That small piece of equipment is in turn, sending and receiving information from a computer server, generally via a telephone line, or fiber optic cable such as the cable company would use.

Technology is rapidly evolving and changing what we know to be true today, may not even apply tomorrow. WiFi allows us to move around our homes, move around our offices, and generally move around our world and stay connected to the internet. We are able to get and deliver information “on the go” because of WiFi technology.
